Human Digestive system Diagram with explaining | what are the function of Digestive system

The digestive system consists of a tube about nine meters long and its associated organs that start from the throat and ends at the esophagus. These organs perform various functions including (chewing, swallowing, storing, digesting, making it soluble, absorbing, and excreting) so the food is quickly digested and becomes part of the body. And provides energy and heat to the body.

The following organs work in the digestive system.

Mouth, teeth, throat, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, colon, rectum, liver, pancreas

Mouth

In the digestive system, food first enters the mouth. The mouth includes the tongue, palate, inner part of the cheeks, and jaws. The tongue creates taste, and its secretions are absorbed into the food.

Teeth

The teeth chew and grind the food like a mill. During chewing, the glands inside the mouth release their secretions to make the food soft and digestible.

Pharynx

This part is funnel-shaped with seven openings (for the nose, two ears, one for the mouth, one for the windpipe, and one for the alimentary canal). The secreted food is pushed by the tongue through the throat into the alimentary canal.

Gullet

This duct is located in front of the spine and behind the windpipe in the neck and chest. Its length is 20 to 25 cm. The muscles of the esophagus contract in the form of waves and push the food into the stomach.

Stomach

The stomach has three layers. It is a bag-like organ. After the food goes down the throat, it passes through the esophagus and enters the stomach through an opening. This alimentary canal is about ten inches long. They pass behind the respiratory tract in the neck of the human body, pass through the chest, reach the pit of the stomach below the ribs, and open above the middle part of the stomach. Food stays in the stomach for three hours to be digested.

Small intestine

The small intestine begins at the lower opening of the stomach. This intestine is curved and close to the duodenum. The upper end of the small intestine is called the duodenum. Here bile and pancreatic secretions are added to the food which accelerates the digestion process.

Pancreas

It is a leaf-shaped gland about seven centimeters long, located at the junction of the small intestine and the stomach. The main secretion of the pancreas is pancreatic juice. This fluid is alkaline in nature and digests all three components of food i.e. starch, fat, and protein.

Liver

The liver is the largest and most important gland of the body, it has two lobes. Its color is blackish red and its weight is around two kg. In the liver, sugar is digested and stored in the form of glucose. The liver produces bile, which is stored in a pouch called the gallbladder, located below the liver. The liver enables the body to use the digested nutrients from these intestines through the bloodstream.

Gallbladder

The gallbladder is a pear-shaped hollow organ that stores bile. When food enters the duodenum, it contracts and falls through the esophagus into the duodenum. The function of bile is to digest fats, kill germs and relieve constipation.

Rectum

The last part of the large intestine where waste collects is called the rectum. The rectum is three centimeters long and opens into the anus.

Large intestine

It is five feet long, twice as round, and thick as the small intestine. When food enters the large intestine, the dissolved food components have already been absorbed. That is, it reaches here in the form of waste. Which is currently in liquid form. The large intestine absorbs excess water in the waste and the waste becomes semi-solid.
